***This is part of a short story i am working one.****
“I love you, I really do. I’m just not in love with you anymore.” said Mirlaine while standing at the edge of Emann’s bed. “I just think we’re better off going our separate ways.”
The words stung at Emann’s heart as he re-played flash backs of the happy times that he and Mirlaine shared.
“Do I not make you happy anymore?” Emann asked. “Is that it?” he asked staring her directly in the eyes. “No….” Mirlaine’s voice trembled as she wiped a tear away from her cheek. “That’s not the reason at all.” she said. “Then what is it?!?” Emann yelled, startled at how upset the question sounded. “I don’t know” Mirlaine mumbled. “I just need some time to myself.” she said as her eye shadow began to smear. Mirlaine turned around slowly. “Where are you going?” Emann asked as Mirlaine began to walk out of his room. She answered with the sound of his bedroom door slamming shut.
Emann laid there on his bed wondering what he did wrong. Staring at the ceiling fan he began to think about how Mirlaine leaving him now messed up his perfect future. He had it all planned out in his head since the day he fell in love with her. Never bothered to think of a “plan B” because forever was all he was focused on. “Fuck!” he said as he punched the wall knowing that nobody was around to hear him. “Why does this shit have to happen now?” he asked, receiving no answer. He knew what the problem was. “There must be somebody else.” he thought to himself. “Why else would she bring this shit up out of the blue?” he said out loud without realizing it. He did that a lot, talked to himself, when nobody was around anyway.
Mirlaine sat there in her car wondering if this was really the right thing to do. “Maybe I should have thought about this more.” she thought to herself as she shifted the car into drive. She stared at Emann’s window one last time and then drove away. “It’s for the better.” she convinced herself to believe as she pressed on the gas pedal a little harder.
As she drove down the same street that she grew so used to driving down every night after leaving Emann’s house, she began to think. They used to be a happy couple. They used to make each other smile. They used do so many other things that they haven’t done lately and she was starting to notice. She liked the little things he did to let her know that he loved her. Not paying attention to the road as her thoughts are driving her insane…a car hit her as he run a red light…then sped off.
As the doctor’s are walking Emann to the X-ray room, a call came on the radio that young female, driving white Lexus, injured badly in hit and run…Emann dropped…
